After a hard year of racing thanks to Title sponsor Ultimate Steel Framing Pty Ltd it’s almost time to hand out some of the clubs most converted awards.
The 2024 Season was one of the Club’s biggest and we celebrated the highs, the lows and what could have been at the Normanby Hotel Saturday night.
Starting on the left is the ‘Ashley Zahl Award’ awarded to the most outstanding club member dedicated to former President (11 years) and Life Member Ashley Zahl whose passion for the club and motorsport in general was second to none! Passing away in 2018 saw the award named in his honour, some very worthy nominations with no less than 7 people nominated for the award let us know who you think will win it in the comments below
The next award (middle) is the ‘Most Consistent Award’ awarded to the person who finishes the most races during the season. It was a tight fight for this one all year but the winner had a perfect year finishing every race with the runner up only suffering 1 DNF can you guess who the winner will be for 2024
The final award (right) is the oldest trophy in the club’s collection dating all the way back to 1983! ‘The Hard Luck Award’ they say this trophy has mythical powers and those who receive this award go onto much better things the following year . 5 nominations this year (highest we’ve seen for a while) but some very ‘lucky’ person will be the 2024 recipient.
Other perpetual awards to be handed out tonight include

The 250 Natiopnal Class went through a resurgence in 2024 with even bigger numbers again in 2025! It was a flawless performance by the Weier Family Racing crew and driver Tim Weier taking out victory in all 6 Rounds.
Second overall was Craig Hillier making the step up from the 125 National class in 2023, he set himself the task of developing a 450 4-stroke into a competitive package and he did a fantastic job regularly mixing it with the ultra fast 125’s and just behind the 250 2-strokes. Unfortunately a balance shaft failure at Round 4 saw him sidelined for the rest of the season but don’t worry he’s already planning something bigger and better for 2025!
3rd overall was Tony Fiveash jumping up from the NGB class to take on the challenge of wrestling a 250 Gearbox Superkart around the track! He had an absolute ball all year long despite missing one round after a crankcase seal let go in practice. His kart is now for sale as he plans to do some travelling in 2025, grab your self a bargain and come join the Superkart family.
250 International
1st Ewen Burg
2nd Russell Jamieson
This class was a bit light on this year with just 2 entries and notable absence of 2023 Champ Ray Raaymakers. Russell Jamieson only made one appearance in his DEA powered Anderson preferring to race his 125 National Package for most of the year.
Ewen Burg debut a new chassis in 2024 the ex Neil Faulkner Anderson Chassis with his PVP power plant installed thanks to some help from Chryss Jamieson. His goal was to develop a reliable package while getting the most he could out of his new ride.
Finishing better than 75% of races in 2024 was a huge improvement over his 2022 campaign where he only finished a handful of races all year
The 125 National Class has gone from strength to strength this year with 9 entries at the final round and possibly more joining in 2025! Super consistent all year round with just 1 DNF our Champion for 2024 was Doug Amiss. A tight scrap between Tim Philp and Russell Jamieson over 2nd came right down to the final round with Tim holding onto second overall despite Russell winning the final round.
2025 is the club’s 50th anniversary and you won’t want to miss it! Check the classifieds buy a kart and come join us at Queensland’s Premier Home of Superkart Racing!
The 2024 Season was one of the Club’s biggest and we celebrated the highs, the lows and what could have been at the Normanby Hotel Saturday night.
A fantastic turnout and kicking off the awards was our 125 TAG LIGHT and HEAVY Categories. It could be the first time in the club’s history that we have had a father and son win their respective classes

2nd Micah Bradley (David Dyson accepting his award)
125 TAG Heavy
1st Steve Murray
2nd David Dyson
3rd Andrew Cain
Despite the small numbers this year the racing was nothing short of amazing with multiple lead changes and plenty of wheel to wheel action! This is the perfect class for anyone wanting to dip their tow into Superkart racing.
Fantastic to see new members in the 85cc Gearbox class this year with both Michael Smith and Cody Collins joining the club. Cody put in a ripper performance during his debut, Casey might have his hands full next year to retain his champion status. Michael Smith is always improving and loves the adrenaline rush from Superkarts that you just can’t put a price on.
1st Casey Le Garde
2nd Cody Collins
3rd Michael Smith (MIA)
