Round 2 125 NGB Light
1st Peter Nuske
2nd Benjamin Longland Longland Family Racing
3rd Paul Buckley
Peter Nuske has long been the man to beat in this class in QLD and this round was no exception! Race 1 he disappeared to be the only 125NGB not to be lapped by the 250 karts, Ben would beat Paul home for 2nd after battling with 2 of the NGB heavy drivers as well. The 4 way fight between them was fantastic to watch.
Race 2 was a rinse and repeat exercise for Peter although this time he did get caught by the 250's. Both Ben and Paul suffered DNF's
Race 3 one of the 250 Nationals dumped its coolant off the line causing chaos as Peter spun in turn 1 and everyone scattered behind him into the gravel trap.
Both Ben and Paul were caught up in the incident resulting in another DNF for both of them. Peter managed to recover and get back on track to recover and take the win.
It was winner take all in the final race for the runner up step on the podium between Ben and Paul and it all ended abruptly for Paul not even completing the first lap with engine issues that had plagued him all weekend. Ben would be locked in a battle with the other NGB karts resulting in a spin down the back straight he would recover to collect 2nd in class and 2nd overall for the weekend setting his best lap of the weekend!
2022 Round 2 250 International
1st Brock Nicholas @harbroindustriesbrock
2nd Ewen Burg @burgie82
Race 1 Brock made the most of Pole position leaping away into the lead before getting passed by Tim in GAS GAS powered 250 National into turn 3. This setup the theme for the race with them swapping positions throughout the race. Brock would beat Tim to the line by just over 3 seconds. Ewen failed to make the start after his kart wouldn't start.
Race 2 Ewen was back for this one and make a great start from the second row to grab the lead into turn 2 ahead of Brock. Ewen and Brock fought hard with Tim again until Ewen lost his steering approaching turn 4 sending him off into the scenery and leaving Brock to pick up his 2nd win of the weekend.
Race 3 Brock had a spin on the second lap at Turn 2 dropping him way back and allowing Ewen to take the spoils.
Race 4 and it was over before it started unfortunately Brock shearing his right rear studs on the opening lap. Ewen would assume the lead until a leaking coolant hose saw him pull up 1 lap from home.
2022 Round 2 250 National
1st Tim Weier @racerx8919
2nd Steve Murray
3rd Kane Otway
Race 1 Tim made a good start from the front row chasing the PVP twin or Brock Nicholas and spent most of the race passing and getting repassed by Brock to ultimately trail him by 3 seconds at the line. Further back Steve Murray was engaged in a similar situation with Russell Jamieson in his 125 with Steve hanging on to 3rd overall ahead of Russell. Kane Otway flat spotted a tyre multiple times ultimately leading to a flat front tyre and a DNF.
Race 2 new tyres for Tim and he made the most of them, cracking into the 1:15 bracket nearly 2 seconds faster than race 1. This time there were 2 250 twins to play with, Ewen Burg joining the party. Ultimately Brock hung on for his 2nd win of the weekend from Tim. Steve Murray was battling with Russ and Doug Amiss for 3rd and he used the power of the 250 to beat Doug to the line by 4 seconds.
Race 3 Tim nailed the start only for Ewen to pass him around the outside heading to turn 1.chasing the 2 twins down the back straight and out braking Brock into turn 3 and he was right on Ewen's tail when he didn't accelerate out of the corner forcing Tim to take evasive action. There was plenty of action in the race as Tim and Ewen exchanged top spot with Tim hanging onto the win with a superb last lap.
Steve Murray was again not able to match the pace of the front 250's picking up 4th overall hanging on from a hard charging Brock Nicholas who had a earlier spin at Turn 2.
Kane Otway had a coolant hose pop off heading into Turn 1 on the opening lap cutting his race short.
Race 4 with Brock out after shearing the studs on his rear hub at Turn 2 on the opening lap and causing chaos behind him it left Tim and Ewen to battle it out at the front. Ewen was slowly edging away before a coolant leak stopped him 1 lap from home.
Tim would collect his 2nd win of the weekend. Both Steve and Kane would DNF the last race.
2022 Round 2 125 National
1st Russell Jamieson @rus87
2nd Doug Amiss @dougamiss
Race 1 and Russell Jamieson has that TM powered Anderson flying along keeping the 250 karts very honest. Punching out a 1:18.3 saw him cruise to a comfortable 12 second lead over Doug Amiss in second.
Race 2 Doug Amiss keep the heat on Russell getting down to a 1:19.0 and the story goes he was on for a 1:18.7 before a small error at Turn 6 cost him. 2 laps from home Russell lost power when his exhaust pipe cracked he limped home to collect second.
Race 3 and some more changes had Russ dip into the 1:17.8 bracket which is flying for a 125 and coming home third overall. Doug made some changes that didn't have the desired effect dropping him back into the 1:20's.
Race 4 had a false start when on the opening lap Brock Nicholas spun and unfortunately left Doug with nowhere to go. Doug suffered damage to his sidepod and side crash bar but was able to rejoin for the restart, although he said the handling after was a bit funkyRuss was absolutely on fire for the last race setting a new PB of 1:17.6
