One of the successes of Top Gear Classic race meetings the 2013 Exclusive Auto Centre Rotax Max Superkart Cup has grown steadily over the last four seasons. The most cost-effective category in Queensland motor racing, a Rotax Max Sprintkart can be purchased for just $2,000. Sean Maberly, John Hay, Joe Sciacca are expected to be the front runners along with teenage race Quintin Slabbert in the 15 strong field who tend to race in a pack around Lakeside Park.
The Exclusive Auto Centre Superkart Challenge Series will be led by defending champion Jason Smith aboard his FPE-engined 250 International class Fuji/Xerox Anderson Maverick. Russell Jamieson will be fast, shaking down a new DEA engine aboard his Anderson Maverick, while 2012 Rotax Max champion Daniel Lewis may cause some surprises in the Lewis Plumbing Yamaha YZ250 powered Anderson Maverick in the 250 National class. Joining the series as a class this year is the MW Motorsport Stock Honda Cup. Mike Wayne, who also races Formula 3, will be racing in the Stock Honda class this year, a Superkart class aimed at limiting costs utilising a standard gearbox equipped Honda 125cc engine.
Superkart racing at the Rotax Max is the cheapest circuit racing class in Australia. The quickest 250 International class can provide lap times matching V8 Supercar for less than 5% of V8 Supercars operating costs. Superkarts is also one of just two Queensland classes that races Internationally. Superkart Evolutions racer Carlo Chermaz has raced in the European championship. 125cc class front runner Doug Amiss is competing in the British championship this year and Smith is looking at European opportunities as well.
