Round 2 Queensland Race Report

The Queensland Superkart Series descended onto Queensland Raceway for Round 2 of the 2018 Series, an early start had a few scrambling to get through scrutineering and be ready for qualifying.

Qualifying got underway and it was Coach Designs Russell Jamieson in his DEA Powered Anderson Maverick that took out the top prize followed by his Father Chryss Jameison also in a DEA Powered Anderson Maverick. Tim Weier from Weier Family Racing (WFR) was third in his GAS GAS Powered Anderson Maverick, Leading the 125 National Class was the Xtreme Karting Honda RS Powered Stockman of William Tait followed by Jon Bothamely in his SGM Powered F1 chassis. Taking top honours in the 85cc Class was Cameron Moxley in his Yamaha Powered Gladiator Chassis. Peter Nuske took the honours in TAG-Aero using his Rotax powered Scorpion Chassis to maximum effect, 2nd was Nick Marshall in his Rotax powered Arrow Kart. Leading the TAG-Non Aero class was Raymond Ralph in his Rotax DD2.

Race 1 got underway and it was Russell who took the early lead and was never headed, 2nd was Chryss after being chased all the way by Tim, 4th was John La Spina in his Honda powered PVP 5th was Brian Wild in his Yamaha powered PVP 6th overall was the 125cc Kart of William Tait 7th was Daryl Bertram followed closely by Doug Amiss and Raymond Ralph the latter 2 swapping places all race long. Peter Nuske was also in that battle until a mistake at the final corner on the final lap saw him lock the rear tyres and spin off into the gravel at turn 6. Cameron Moxley lead home the 85cc Class in 10th overall followed by Nick Marshall, Keith Taylor and New member Ben Smith.

Race 2 Russel was MIA with another engagement that left Chryss and Tim to fight it out at the front with Chyrss using the extra HP of his DEA to keep the GAS GAS at arms length. Brian Wild got the better of John la Spina this time for 3rd with William Tait was nipping at Johhny's heels for 4th. 6th was Darryl Bertram again holding out Doug Amiss and Peter Nuske those 3 involved in a race long dice. Raymond Ralph was 9th after making some engine changes which say his pace drop from race 1. 10th was Nick Marshall from Cameron Moxley, Scott Jamieson, Keith Taylor and Ben Smith.

Race 3 Saw Russell Jamieson bolt some new boots on to lower his own lap record by another 0.15 seconds, 2nd place was Tim Weier after Chryss Jamieson struck issues on lap 3. Brain Wild managed to hold Johnny La Spina and William Tait off again for 3rd. Darryl Bertram put in another solid performance to hold off Doug Amiss with only 1 second separating them at the line. Peter Nuske came home 8th from Raymond Ralph in 9th beating Scott Jamieson by 0.4 seconds. Nick Marshall was 11th from Keith Taylor and Ben Smith, 85cc Race 1&2 winner Cameron Moxley would strike gearbox troubles that would see him sidelined for the rest of the vent.

Race 4 business as usual at the front with Russell Jamieson marching away from Tim Weier after Chryss Jamieson threw a chain leaving pitlane, Brian Wild grabbed 3rd from John La Spina by 0.02 at the line with William Tait only 1 second further back. Solving his earlier engine issues saw Jon Bothamely beat Darryl Bertram and Doug Amiss home for 6th. Peter Nuske took home 9th from Scott Jamieson, Nick Marshall, Ben Smith and Keith Taylor. Raymond Ralph's weekend came to end with a lock up between turns 3 and 4 on lap 7 of 10

Race 5 Another blinding start from Russell saw him disappear off into the distance, Tim Weier was chasing Chryss Jamieson hard for second place before another issues saw Chryss pull over down the back straight on lap 3. Brian Wild again took home 3rd followed by John La Spina and William Tait. Jon Bothamely showed his Australian American Racing team-mate Darryl Bertram the fast way around for 6th. Doug Amiss was just unable to catch Darryl all weekend coming home in 8th place followed by Peter Nuske, Nick Marshall, Scott Jamieson, Keith Taylor,Bayley Douglas and Ben Smith.

The Series moves onto Round 3 in just 3 weeks time at Lakeside Park Raceway June 2nd-3rd, come out and check all the action as the championship battle heats up!!
